Latino Artists are Front and Center for the Golden Globe Awards

When the nominees for the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced, a couple of prominent Latinos in the TV industry graced the list. Actor Gael García Bernal, actress Gina Rodriguez and Chilean director Pablo Larraín are all part of the talented list of film and TV stars and creators nominated for the prestigious award.

García Bernal is nominated again for Best Television Performance by an Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Amazon’s hit show, Mozart in the Jungle. He won the Golden Globe for the same role last year. Mozart in the Jungle itself is nominated for Best Comedy Television Series; it also took home the award in the same category last year.

Chilean director Pablo Larraín’s film “Neruda.” is nominated for Best Foreign Film. The film is tells the life of the iconic Latin American poet, author and activist Pablo Neruda. Garcia Bernal also plays a supporting character in the film.

Gina Rodriguez is nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy TV Series for her performance in comedy Jane the Virgin. In 2015, the first time she was nominated for a Golden Globe, she won. It is the third year in a row she lands a nomination in that category.

Another Latino nominee is Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote the song “How Far I’ll Go” for Disney’s new animated film Moana.  He received a nomination for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. The movie itself was also nominated for Best Animated Motion Picture.
