Ad Campaign Urges Support for Health Care Legislation

A number of African-American, Latino and civil rights groups have launched an ad campaign in support of health care legislation. The ads are targeting moderate Democratic senators, urging them to support legislation that would allow the government to sell insurance in competition with private options.

Featuring a public bus – a recognizable civil rights symbol – the ad sends the message that “there needs to be room for all of us on the bus.”

The ads are on television and in print and online, in both English and Spanish, and began on Monday. They are in Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina and Florida and are aimed at Democratic Senators Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu and Kay Hagan, along with Republican Senator George LeMieux.

The groups plan to spend between $250,000 and $500,000 on the ads – PowerPAC has been raising the money.
