Latinos Hold “SNL DUMP TRUMP” Rally At NBC’s Rockefeller Center

Latino groups ratcheted up their pressure on NBC in their continued push to drop Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from Saturday’s Saturday Night Live (SNL) appearance with a protest in front of NBC studios in New York’s Rockefeller Center they dubbed “SNL Dump Trump Rally” Thursday.

“It is shameful for ‘SNL’ and NBC to think that racism can be repackaged as comedy,” said Juan Escalante, digital campaigns manager for America’s Voice.

Alex Nogales, president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, echoed sentiments by Escalante saying “Saturday Night Live is not a news entity, it is a pop culture giant, and should not be in the business of giving acceptance and legitimacy to the views of a racist extremist by having him host a program. To do so is insensitive and will contribute to the wave of bigotry he is creating.”

Trump finds himself in the cross-hairs of many Latino organizations such as the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) and the National Institute for Latino Policy (NiLP) all of which are associated with the rally for categorizing immigrants as criminals, for proposing the deportation of all immigrants, mostly Latinos, from the United States and for his insistence on building a wall along the southern border with Mexico.

When asked about the event in New York, Trump expressed his support for the protesters, saying “look, I think they should demonstrate. Ratings will go even higher than they are going to be. It’s going to be one of their highest-rated shows ever and they’re very excited about it.”
