GUEST BLOGGER SERIES: Creigh Deeds, The Democratic Candidate for Governor of Virginia "LET'S KEEP VIRGINIA MOVING FORWARD, NOT BACKWARDS!"

RCD HEAD SHOT

Latinovations would like to thank Creigh Deeds,  Democratic Candidate  for Governor of Virginia, for his contribution to La Plaza.

By: Creigh Deeds

On November 3rd, Virginians will go to the polls to elect our next governor.   The first job of the next governor will be to create jobs and rebuild Virginia’s economy.  Sen. Deeds has a plan that offers the incentive of a tax cut for every job created in the Commonwealth, and additional help for small businesses which invest in the economy.  Creigh offers solutions for the long term in the form of investments in education and building Virginia’s 21st century economy through high tech and green jobs.

Creigh has spent the last two decades serving the people of Virginia, first as a Bath County prosecutor and now as a State Senator.  Creigh has worked across party lines, made tough choices and advanced commonsense solutions in the tradition of great Virginians like Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine.  When Virginia was in a financial crisis, Creigh worked with Governor Warner to put the budget back in order by cutting waste and protecting important priorities.  The 2004 bipartisan budget agreement invested more than $1 billion in education, eliminated the state food tax, and put more police officers on the streets with the tools and the training they need to keep us safe.  Creigh worked with Governor Warner to pass that budget reform, which made Virginia the best state for business and preserved our triple-A bond rating.  Bob McDonnell voted against the bill.

Thanks to this bipartisan effort of Democrats and Republicans, Virginia has consistently been recognized for its fiscal responsibility and good governance.  Just this Wednesday, September 23rd, Forbes Magazine named Virginia the “Best State for Business” for the fourth year in a row.  The next governor will be charged with keeping our economy moving forward, as we weather tough economic times.  As governor, Creigh will keep Virginia as the best state to do business.

Education will be a top priority in a Deeds administration.  Creigh will ensure access to quality pre-kindergarten programs by building on Governor Kaine’s Smart Beginnings Initiative and will continue to strive for universally-available pre-k. Creigh will improve access to higher education for all Virginians by investing in job training programs and offering scholarship opportunities.

Virginia is stronger and better because of our diversity and the contributions of Latinos to our economy and society. Under a Deeds Administration, the Latino community will have a friend in the Governor’s Mansion.  Creigh supports comprehensive immigration reform that makes sense at the federal level.  Furthermore, Creigh is not in favor of an expanded 287(g) program that will divert state and local resources away from the core purpose of law enforcement–keeping our families safe.

We need your support and from the Virginians among you, your vote, to keep Virginia moving forward!  For more information, please visit the Deeds for Virginia website at www.deedsforvirginia.com.

Creigh Deeds has spent the last two decades serving the people of Virginia, first as a Bath County prosecutor and now as a State Senator. Quietly and consistently he’s been accomplishing things that have made Virginia a better place to live. And he’s been doing it by working across party lines, making tough choices and advancing commonsense solutions in the tradition of great Virginians like Governors Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. Creigh is a pro-business, pro-family Democrat who will work to grow Virginia’s economy, keep Virginia a low-tax state, invest in education, and make sure that Virginia remains the best state to do business. Creigh has a clear vision for keeping Virginia moving forward.
