Reps. Ben Ray Lujan and Linda Sanchez Tapped for Top Leadership Positions

together

Reps. Ben Ray Lujan (D – NM) and Linda Sanchez (D- CA) were recently appointed to top leadership positions within the Democratic Party. On Monday, House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, nominated Lujan to serve as the next chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Yesterday, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) elected Sanchez to succeed Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (D – TX) as group’s chair.

Lujan is the first Latino ever appointed to head the DCCC, Pelosi said, “Congressman Lujan has the bold vision and determined leadership to deliver Democratic wins in difficult districts – and I am confident he will prove a tireless champion for our members and candidates across the country.”

The CHC elected Sanchez by unanimous consent and Reps. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D – NM), Joaquin Castro (D – TX), and Ruben Gallego (D – AZ) will join her as top deputies of the caucus when the new Congress convenes in January.

As leaders in their respective positions, both representatives are poised to become extremely consequential voices in the 114th Congress in addition to the 2016 election cycle.  Sanchez has already stated that as Chairwoman, she is determined to advance the most pressing issues of concern among the Latino community, “including comprehensive immigration reform, voting rights, economic opportunity and education.”
