With increased importance on the Latino vote in elections across the country and in the presidential election next year, one organization, Dominicanos USA, is doing everything it can to ensure the fastest growing segment of that group, Dominican-Americans, have their voices heard, announcing that they have successfully registered more than 100,000 voters in New York and Rhode Island.

“It’s a great milestone for our community and also for our organization” said Natalia Rosa, Dominicanos USA’s Rhode Island state director.

Dominican-Americans number approximately 1.5 million in the US, with more than half living In the NYC area and while they are not as numerous in Rhode Island, they are the fastest-growing minority group in the state.

Aided in their efforts by a study done in conjunction with the polling firm Latino Decisions, Dominicanos USA was able to target communities with large Dominican-American populations. Eddie Cuesta, Dominicanos USA New York state director said that while he was proud of the group’s success, “we need to mobilize them to actually turn out to vote.”
